Peleng
Photo: eleng is one of the best sons of the epoch-making Nabeg. Along with his half-brothers Menes and Pesniar, that breath-takingly beautiful and athletic animal belongs to the world´s breeding elite. Peleng was born in 1978 at Tersk. His dam was Salon daughter Palmira, an outstanding broodmare, who till she died in 1990 produced 7 fillies and 5 colts, the premier among them all being Peleng. After a successful racing career Peleng became a sire at Tersk. In July 1985 at Tersk, after a regular auction there, quite unexpectedly arrived a US team looking for a Russian star sire. When they were shown all the Tersk sires, the Americans shortlisted them to Mukomol and Peleng. Sasha Poromarev was reluctant to part with Peleng and it took an intervention of top brass from Moscow to swing the deal. For the first few years outside of Russia Peleng stayed in Holland, where he was to be prepared for export to the USA. The foals he sired in the meantime were of exceptional quality and won many classes at shows. Once again there seemed to be confirmation of what was already known of other Nabeg sons — immeasurable breeding potential. Peleng could not stay in the States because of piroplasmosis. He found a new owner in Europe: Paolo Gucci in England. In Europe Peleng continued his successful breeding career. His daughter Sarabanda (out of Saga) bore by Balaton the mare Siberia, who, when she was only one year old, was honored as the "best mare bred in Austria."
